The bravest act of them all

!You were right all along, and I’m sorry!

These are the words you never said to me:

You were right all along.

I’ve always mocked you for being authentic, for being sweet and caring.
I’ve always made you feel as though you were weaker for always having your heart at play.
I’ve called you naive and humiliated you in front of everyone just because you had no problem in showing that you see no evil.

I’d say a clever joke so people would laugh with me - at you.

Amazingly, you still held on.
You always did. You’d cry. You felt lonely and misunderstood.
And I did that to you.
I saw you getting quieter and quieter.

The quieter you became, the worse I felt.
You just didn’t fight back, so It got frustrating for me, ‘cause once again, I saw it as a weakness.

Well, I was wrong, once again.

You got quiet because you just didn’t understand this kind of world.
You did understand kindness - not this mean world.
So, what more could I do?

Nothing. I see it now. And I’m sorry.

My only solace, is to see that despite everyone telling you that you were wrong, the misfit, the gullible one - you have never, ever, stopped believing in the power of your own heart.

I see it now, it takes courage to be kind.

And I’m the one who says it today:
It’s time to stop seeing kindness as a weakness - it’s the bravest act of them all.
